Welcome

Welcome to "Work at
COTS," a website to give prospective employees information about working at COTS (Committee on the Shelterless).

COTS is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization located in Petaluma, California, about 40 miles north of San Francisco. COTS offers help and hope to homeless persons in Sonoma County by providing safe shelter and housing, helping people develop steady incomes and helping them get back under a roof of their own. We also help homeless families become stable and break the cycle of homelessness by teaching homeless parents to make their children's needs a high priority and to provide a safe, loving and secure home for their children.
Our main website provides comprehensive information about our agency and programs.

One of our staff provided this perspective on working at COTS:

COTS is definitely one of the best places to work in the North Bay. First, every day presents new and different opportunities to provide hope and healing to individuals and families in desperate need of help. How rewarding it is to make a living in the course of pursuing this "higher calling." Many of the folks we assist have no one else to turn to, giving us the chance to be the "friend" or "family member" the rest of us are able to rely on in tough times.

Second, we have a wonderful team of selfless, committed staff members who are a joy to work with. Our culture is a wonderful blend of compassion, common sense, hard work and, yes, humor and fun. How many people in the workforce can honestly say every day is a pleasure to come to work and everyone that I work with I like and respect? Too, this work attracts great volunteers, and it really feels good knowing that we are making a difference in the lives of people in need.

What qualities do we look for in our staff? Our most successful staff are competent, compassionate, committed to get the job done whatever it takes, and have wisdom born of life experience.

Our compensation is competitive with other nonprofit agencies, and includes (depending on the position) comprehensive health benefits, generous vacation and sick leave, a retirement plan, flex time under some circumstances, ongoing training and more.

COTS is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We welcome diversity in our workplace. Bilingual and bicultural candidates are encouraged to apply. Please review our
Key points before applying. Here are the currently open positions.
